Whether you choose laminate, solid wood, granite, Corian or even some of the other materials similar to Corian such as LG Hi-Macs, Hanex, & Staron by Samsung, your kitchen worktop will look great and will serve you well in your new kitchen for years

How do you use your kitchen worktops?

So many people rush in to picking a kitchen worktop without first having thought it through. Sure, the look is important – but what about the practicality? It is important that you pick a kitchen worktop that suits your lifestyle too!

If you are a keen cook/chef then you should consider using a worktop that stands up well to heat. Typically granite or Corian are the contenders here. If you have young children you should also perhaps consider what gives the best stain protection as of course those little ones are often known to spill juices and leave them. Check out the quick guide opposite for some useful information relating to the main types of solid kitchen worktop materials.

Granite Kitchen Worktops

A luxury material and one often used for its stunning appearance. Granite is easy to maintain and is suited to any style of kitchen. The glossy polished surface looks stunning and often you find people create Islands in their kitchen from Granite.

Get the look with Granite: Granite looks good on any area of the kitchen, and can look great teamed up with a solid wood classic kitchen door.

Looking after Granite: A natural material and low maintenance — Granite is able to withstand very high temperatures, it is water resistant and fairly stain resistant too. It is however important that spillages such as wine for example are wiped up straight away.

Solid Wood Kitchen Worktops

Solid wood kitchen worktops give a nice natural feel to your kitchen and go especially well with shaker style kitchens as well as country style kitchens too. Wooden worktops can compliment a modern design too if that’s your taste.

Get the look with Solid Wood Worktops: You could use a wooden worktop slab in food preparation areas. And remember to keep an off-cut to make it into a matching chopping board!

Looking after Solid Wood Worktops: Spills really ought to be cleaned up straight away as they can stain the wood. Typically rubbing linseed oil into the wood every 6 months to keep it in good condition is advisable. If you scratch the surface, simply rub over the area with a fine wire wool and you can often find you can repair the problem.

Corian, Staron, Hi-Macs, Hanex Kitchen Worktops

All of these materials are stain resistant, easy to clean, and non-porous. They are also very hygienic and a great alternative to a granite worktop.

Get the look with Acrylic: Acrylic kitchen worktop materials are really flexible and can be cut into any shape you want. Go for some nice corner curves or cut around an integrated sink for a sleek look.

Looking after an acrylic kitchen worktop: They are incredibly low maintenance – just make sure any spills are wiped up as soon as possible if you can.
